Light/Darkness Sensing Permissions
So one of the things Xigbar is capable of doing in sensing the amount of light and/or darkness in people's hearts, and he retains this ability on the Barge. More information can be found over here at his permissions post, but for the sake of being thorough, a brief explanation:
A heart - sometimes referred to as a Heart, in order to make things less confusing - is the emotional core of person, and - together with memories/will - is responsible for making a person who they are. With a few notable exceptions, Light and Darkness are represented in each heart, in varying amounts. If someone tends to feel positive emotions (love, compassion, kindness, etc) that registers as Light, while negative emotions (jealousy, anger, fear, hatred, etc) register as Darkness. There's a little bit of wiggle room in that the lines do blur somewhat - especially for personality traits that don't have an emotional component - but generally speaking, what matters is the nature of someone's disposition. For example, someone who puts on a cheerful front but who has a nasty disposition underneath that front will still read as predominantly dark-aligned; the reverse would also be true.
As things currently stand on the Barge, Xigbar can't do anything more than use this to get a general sense of what to expect from people, but if this is something you want to play (or not!) with just drop me a line here using the form below.

If yes, what will he be able to see? very fucking dark. for the reason that Bill's just a huge dickhead and most of his sincere emotions are like. Spite, or paranoia, or deep apathy for other people's suffering. he's a very unhappy person. it may be interesting that he's actually getting lighter as of the past year or so? more sincerely positive feelings.

If yes, what will he be able to see? His heart skews more light than dark, but he does have some darkness. He used to be an angry, violent person and he has killed a couple of people (one for justified reasons and one very much not justified).

If yes, what will he be able to see? While this feels like a cop-out, with the definitions given I'd have to think it's a dead even split. She's naturally an affable and appreciative sort, but pretty significantly beaten down by the universe at this point and consequently there's this immense well of anger-resentment-envy-guilt-wrath she isn't at all equipped to tackle in any meaningful way, despite wanting to. Light comes more naturally and is what she consciously chooses to act on, but that Dark is a-festerin'.

If yes, what will he be able to see? Jon's heart skews VERY VERY light, even if he comes off like an asshole sometimes. He's a genuinely good person who's life goal is to save people and protect them but there's a link to something that will read as dark/confusing in him, given his Fear-Entity-Patron.

If yes, what will he be able to see? Ardyn's core is light but he's been darkened by the starscourge and his own despair and action. Having graduated, a lot of that is gone but can't help the starscourge. That's pure darkness. So it would probably come off like a core of light with darkness curled around it.

If yes, what will he be able to see? Nothing but light on this one. He's a genuinely good person who has been utterly selfless pretty much his whole life.

If yes, what will he be able to see? He definitely skews dark. In terms of emotion, he's just flat out never felt happy and the emotion would be alien to him. "Smug" is about as close as he's ever gotten. Anger, dismissiveness, coldness, spite, frustration -- all of these are much easier to access.

If yes, what will he be able to see? Nick skews dark, at least on the surface. He has a lot of self-loathing and a pretty strong hatred of the human race in general. He thinks most people, including himself, are horrible and don't deserve to live. At the same time, he does still have positive emotions--affection, humor, a sense of justice--but he's deliberately suppressed them so they only slip out through the cracks.

Iris is almost a 50/50 split, but the light side has the edge. Think of that story of the two wolves in your heart: she has a lot of anger, arrogance and selfishness in her, but she makes a constant conscious effort to fight that side of herself down.

If yes, what will he be able to see? I think we all know that Luke kinda IS the light, but the way I see that isn't that he's necessarily pure and without darkness. It's more that the love/compassion/what have you is so much brighter. It's not that he doesn't ever have darker emotions--that'd be too easy--it's that he's got a LOT of the other stuff, or that it's brighter, or... however you wanna play with that.

If yes, what will he be able to see? Jedao's Heart should read as Error 404: Heart is On Fire. Just the impression of fire and a lack of other information.

If yes, what will he be able to see? Skews dark, but like, Active Tempest Hurricane Lightning kinda dark - Kahl is a particular kind of god that is "more like the maelstrom" than others - the primordial chaos vortex that birthed his universe's first gods. He's the god of Vengeance, driven by anger/loneliness/pain, but he also has strange noble streaks, and he's in some ways very hungry for and capable of affection. His divine nature is fundamentally unstable. I'm cool with Xigbar getting the vibe of all of this, especially storm imagery.

If yes, what will he be able to see? skews strongly Light. Mort(e) is a huge grump and cynic but he is driven by deep, deep love, and he's even become somewhat less of a misanthrope in the last few paragraphs of canon and the implied events afterward.

If yes, what will he be able to see? Dark. So much dark. Mostly anger and violence, seeing as how he's a hitman and has a nasty habit of lashing out when threatened or pressured. There's a little light in there, buried deep, but mostly dark.

If yes, what will he be able to see? Hange's is a heart of strong contrasts. Her bright points are vibrant and intense, as is the darkness that corrodes some edges and sends threatening tendrils towards the center. She's more light than dark, and full of curiosity and a carefully cultivated sense of compassion towards most of the world, but what dark exists is cruel and strong.

If yes, what will he be able to see? Archer skews more dark than light, tbh. Though he comes across as being fairly indifferent most of the time, he's got a lot of anger, despair, and self-loathing packed in there that's super unhealthy. He's a little better than he used to be so we'll say he runs about 40/60 on Light/Darkness, respectively. His heart would be fairly representative of someone who started out mostly Light, but Darkness ended up becoming a more corrosive feature over time.

If yes, what will he be able to see? What do you get when you take a lawyer and turn him into a wolf? Lark is not a *good* person by nature, and he is very literally an animal in human skin which means he'll read like an apex predator: bloody minded but not evil.
However he's also a dog. And he loves being a dog and he loves so much because he's a dog.
So it's not a clean read, I think? Basically "a wolf turned domesticated pet, maybe don't trust him around small animals, children, or sheep".

If yes, what will he be able to see? Dark for sure. Steve puts on a brave, cheerful and even hopeful front, acting the part of doting Reverend, but underneath, there's a lot of abandonment issues, predatory superiority complex (vampires being top of the food chain, etc), a touch of self-loathing towards his own cowardice.

If yes, what will he be able to see? Norton is a cheerful outside with a hard bastard center. So his heart is predominantly dark with a bit of light struggling in this toxic environment.

If yes, what will he be able to see? Prompto's heart skews light, because he is dumbly optimistic with extremely little malicious intent (and that's only under extreme duress). He has an excess of compassion and is generally very friendly, with no ulterior motives. Any darkness would be linked to very deep-rooted insecurity, which results in a fear of abandonment, but it's kinda outweighed by the rest of him.

If yes, what will he be able to see? He's a good, earnest, well-intended kid doing his best so not actually as dark as you'd expect from a literal imperialist lapdog, but he's also an anxious mess who's suffered an on-screen mental breakdown on the Disney channel so he's majoritively dark.

If yes, what will he be able to see? Tendi's heart likely appears so bright and shiny, being the optimistic ray of sunshine she is. But if he looks harder, there's something dark under there. Darker and uglier than he might expect, given her outward presentation on the Barge. It's a lot of guilt, self-doubt, shame, and suppressed trauma of some kind. Girl is avoiding dealing with something big.
