There would have been too much of a temptation to cross some things out.
[ More than a few parts of his life were simply embarrassing, after all. Skipping over the tragic end of the Fourth War and his adoption by Kiritsugu Emiya, Archer reads down to the relevant section on the Fifth Holy Grail War during his human lifetime. He is not surprised to find the name he was looking for. ]
Kirei Kotomine…
[ He looks up at Xigbar. ]
You remember that name?
[ The file describes him as the Church-appointed overseer in the Holy Grail War. A man who was supposed to be an impartial referee but secretly became the Master of Lancer. He and another Heroic Spirit named Gilgamesh both sought the Holy Grail with the intention of releasing the curses contained within to wipe out humanity. At the end of the Fifth War, it was Shirou (Archer’s human self) who killed Kirei and became the victor. ]
[And it's not like he wouldn't have been tempted to do the same, if the shoe had been on the other foot. Though not necessarily out of embarrassment, in his case.
Either way, there's a brief moment of consideration at the question, and then a nod.]
Yep. Can't exactly say I much approve of his ideals, though. Or his methods, if I'm getting things right.
[And he might not be! He only has the loosest of understandings of how the kind of war Archer has been involved in works, and he's never really claimed otherwise. Even if there are some parallels to things he's dealt with.]
Fortunately - or unfortunately, perhaps - the Kirei present on this ship is ten years younger than the man described briefly in this file. He is also a Warden.
[ Which pisses him off, but he’ll refrain from saying that. ]
I can only speculate about the Admiral’s reasoning for that, but whatever made him decide to follow the path he did at the time we first met apparently hasn’t happened yet. I mention this strictly because I would prefer that everything in this file remain confidential.
[ In other words, he doesn’t want Kirei to get a sneak peak of his future. Or at least, one potential outcome. ]
[Well, that certainly explains why it's suddenly relevant, if nothing else. It also raises some very interesting questions with regards to the Admiral's abilities and reasoning - to say nothing of what might happen were the Admiral to try and reach out for someone from his past - but those aren't anything he wants to bother Archer with.
Not right now, anyway.]
I might not be anything like Xehanort but I know a thing or two about time travel. My lips are sealed.
[...But he might just end up seeing what the man in question is like, at some point. Out of curiosity, if nothing else.]

[ Archer gestures for Xigbar to sit. ]
I didn’t actually look at it before I gave it you.

Didn't wanna check to make sure the Admiral got everything right, first?

Why?
