I'm Hilda, I'm your warden this month. I know some people aren't fans of this temporary-pairing business, so just say the word if you'd rather not deal with me.
Hey, I'm game to talk, if that's what you were after. Sure, this whole arrangement might not last, but that's no reason to just dismiss it out of hand, right?
Looks like I'm your warden, mate. Anything I can do for you, you let me know. Realize that might be limited under the circumstances, so that that as you will. An' I know we 'aven't been formally introduced--name's Spike, I'm a vampire, former inmate, blah blah blah.
[He suspects the answer will be no - it has been so far - but he figures it can't hurt to ask. The worst that can happen is that Spike says no, and in that case he's right where he was to begin with.]
And I remember seeing the bit about your graduation, yep.
[He pronounces the first letter as if it were a z and not an x, but other than that most of the rest of his name is pronounced about the way one would expect.]
And I thought I'd take some time to see the sights.
[He doesn't sound particularly aggressive about it though. More curious, really.]
And eh, you know. Still missing some of the stuff I had back home, but the way I hear it that's par for the course.
[Not that... he hasn't tried to convince a warden to let him have the stuff in question back, but he's starting to come to the conclusion that most wardens aren't gonna sign off on them.]
[It makes no difference in the long run, practically speaking. Xigbar doesn't have anything immediately pressing as it stands. But he's not going to drop everything to show up as soon as possible. Not when he could just as easily spend the time getting there asking a few questions instead.]
[ This note is left slipped under Xigbar's door: ]
Xigbar,
I am sorry to do things this way, but I am afraid I have to leave the Barge. For reasons I am not ready to explain, I feel as though I cannot carry out my duties on this ship, as a passenger or as a Warden. That is not fair to you or anyone else here, which is why the best option, at this time, is for me to take some time away to reflect and put myself in order.
I have asked Lark to check in with you from time to time so if there is something you need while I am gone, he is available as a resource for you.
Again - I apologize that I could not tell you tell you this in person. When I return, I am open to discussing my continued role as your Warden, among other things.
I will be invoking the Enclosure so that I may visit my home. There is nothing pleasant there, but if you have an interest, I would return the favor and allow you with me.
I know we haven't gotten around to chatting much before now, but I thought I'd give you a heads up about Shen Wei. He's been in a coma for a few weeks now and he's in my cabin.
[It's a day or so after she'd spoken with her warden, long enough for a transfer to be processed, assuming there's actually a process. For all she knows, the various lists are just updated by magic.
(IC thread is still ongoing, but safe to assume he'd probably get a heads up.)]
Hey. I don't think we've met, but I thought I should introduce myself, since I will be working in your department. I'm Yelena.
